A new kind of viral awareness campaign has hit the online population. If you have a female friend on your facebook friends list, who recently put up her status as “I like it on the table” or “I like it under the desk”, this is part of a new awareness campaign for breast cancer.
Facebook viral: I like it on the..................................The chrisitian science monitor reports “Despite the innuendo-laden message, women are writing about where they like to put their purses when they get home. The idea is to raise awareness for breast cancer research by posting the suggestive messages with strict instructions not to let men in on the game.”
Women around the world, including Pakistan are participating in this new kind of an awareness campaign.
A similar campaign was seen a few months back where women were putting different colours as their facebook statuses, which were actually meant to be the colour of their bras.
“This week women all over the world were asked a Facebook message, asking them to make their own small contribution to October Breast Cancer Awareness month,” the Telegraph reports.
What’s the point?
The Christian Science monitor says “No one seems to know who started these campaigns. Some commentators have claimed that women have scheduled more breast cancer screenings in response to the campaign.”
According to the Telegraph, a spokesman for Breast Cancer Care, which is not affiliated with the campaign told EmaxHealth, said: “While viral campaigns have great potential for increasing consciousness around many issues, we’d like to see this go further.”
“We would encourage people to direct their Facebook friends towards helpful support and information to create better breast (cancer) awareness … or reminding their friends to check their breasts regularly when they explain what the campaign is about.”
