Musharraf calls for reconciliation on Pakistan's independence anniversary
In his first public comments since Pakistan's governing Coalition said last week that it would seek to impeach him, President Pervez Musharraf has called for political stability.
President Musharraf was making an address to mark the anniversary of the country's independence.
He failed to respond to calls for him to step down or be impeached, instead calling for national unity and reconciliation.
"I wanted to say that if we have to fix our economy and fight terrorism then we need political stability in Pakistan and in my view political stability will come through a reconciliation approach as opposed to a confrontational approach," he said.
